Matthew Armbruster

Image of Matthew ArmbrusterMatt Armbruster, cellist, has performed across the United States and Europe. He has appeared with the National Repertory Orchestra, Castleton Festival Orchestra, Icicle Creek Chamber Music Festival, and the Penderecki Academy Orchestra as principal cellist, where he collaborated closely with renowned composer and conductor Kryztof Penderecki. He was previously a member of the 2013 San Francisco Academy Orchestra, where he was featured as a soloist in the second performance of Mark Volkert’s Pandora along with principal members of the San Francisco Symphony.

Matt is a member of the cello section in the Austin Symphony. He has made his Austin recital debut at Heller Hall and has been a featured artist at the Blanton Museum of Art on their Midday Music Series and Beat the Rush series. He is the co-founder and co-director of Tetractys New Music, an Austin-based concert series dedicated to commissioning and performing the music of living composers. He has additionally been a featured artist presented by the Wiscasset Salon Series and has performed a number of times at the French Embassy in Washington, D.C. He has also appeared as a soloist with the University of Tennessee Chamber Orchestra, Old Dominion Symphony, and the Landon Symphonette.

Matt is currently pursuing his Masters of Music at UT Austin under the tutelage of Bion Tsang. His previous teachers have included Amos Yang, Anthony Elliott, Janos Starker, and John Kaboff.
