“I have seen many, many, many symphony programs for public education, but they have NEVER been like this one. This is by far the best, most thought-out instructional program. What else would Austin produce but the best?” – Dr. Meria Carstarphen, ex-AISD Superintendent
ASO Young People’s Concerts are full orchestra performances engaging over 12,000 students (grades 4-5) annually with carefully-crafted programming of symphonic music and narrative that is targeted to the age group, richly cross-curricular, multi-sensory and interactive, supported by robust educational materials, representative of diversity and diverse backgrounds, and aligned to state teaching objectives. School groups attend during the school day as an educational field trip opportunity.
ASO 2024-2025 Young People’s Concerts, titled Midsummer in Marfa: A West Texas Fairy Tale are set to take place in March 2025 at the Long Center for the Performing Arts in collaboration with Austin Shakespeare, Mariachi las Alteñas, Ventana Ballet and Amalia Ortiz, featuring music by Felix Mendelssohn and Texas-based composer, Federico Chávez-Blanco.
