Alex Maynegre-Torra

Alex Maynegre-Torra enjoys a versatile career as collaborative pianist, solo performer and music editor. Maynegre-Torra has been working as a collaborative pianist at the Sarah and Ernest Butler School of Music at the University of Texas in Austin since 2010.

As the principal keyboard of the Austin Symphony Orchestra, he has performed as co-soloist in the Carnival of the Animals by Saint-Saëns with pianist Jeffrey Biegel, and as a soloist on the Capriccio for piano and orchestra by Stravinsky.

Maynegre-Torra is a prize-winner in several competitions in his native Catalonia (Spain) and the US. He has appeared in concert with cellists Lynn Harrell and Bion Tsang, violinist Joseph Silverstein, the Emerson String Quartet, saxophonist Stephen Page, trombonist James Markey and tubist Demondrae Thurman, among others.

As a recording artist, he can be heard on the EP, “The Saxophone Music of Florent Schmitt” with Saxophonist Stephen Page.

Maynegre-Torra also has a deep interest in revising standard piano reductions for instrumental concerto scores. In 2013 OvationPress published his piano reduction of Schelomo by Ernest Bloch. The original reduction of this piece is known in the field as one of the most impractical scores to read and to play.

Alex holds degrees from the “Conservatori del Liceu” in Barcelona, the Hartt School of Music in Hartford, CT, and the University of Colorado at Boulder, where he completed his DMA in Collaborative Piano. His teachers include Anne Epperson, Enric Torra, Luiz de Moura Castro and Dr. David Westfall.
