Diversity & Community Engagement (D&CE)
In conformity with the Austin Symphony Orchestra’s (ASO) commitment to equity, inclusion, and non-discrimination, it is the ASO’s policy and goal to promote the diversity, inclusion and engagement of the residents of Austin and the Central Texas Region across all protected classes of people, including but not limited to, age, race, ethnicity, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, religion, disability and experience.
The ASO D&CE Committee, made up of staff, musicians, board and community members, meets regularly to address D&CE related issues and initiatives. The Committee is focused on the following:
1. Make recommendations to increase diversity within ASO’s Board and in the concert hall
2. Recommend goals and strategies to ASO Board for adoption to improve diversity within ASO’s staff and orchestra
3. Increase ASO’s engagement in the communities we serve
4. Nominate diverse community leaders for the ASO Ambassador Council and invite diverse community leaders to participate on the D&CE Committee
5. Promote cultural themed concerts with more diverse composers and artists
