Snare Drum

The snare drum was first strapped to a marching drummer signal the troops during battle because it was so loud. The drum is made up of a wooden or metal shell with 2 open ends that are covered by a piece of animal skin, or nowadays, plastic called a drum head. The snares or wires attached to the bottom vibrate when the percussionist hits the top head, making a crisp, sharp sound.
