JOB SUMMARY

The Development Assistant will have regular interaction with all Austin Symphony Orchestra (ASO) departments, community constituents including donors and volunteers, and clients. This position must be able to accurately complete assignments within a given timeline, problem solve, and work well under pressure. The highly motivated, organized, and passionate individual who holds this position will assist with implementation of all fundraising, stewardship, and donor database activities to support ASO work and mission.

This full-time position requires meticulous attention to detail, excellent time management skills, strong written and verbal communication, and the ability to manage multiple projects at once. The ideal candidate should enjoy working as part of a team but also be able to take the initiative on projects. They should be enthusiastic about advancing their career in fundraising and dedicated to amplifying the voice of the Austin Symphony!

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

 Database Support

  • Assist Database Specialist with entering daily gifts and managing acknowledgement processing by ensuring that letters are mailed
  • Develop expertise in database queries and reporting including financial reports related to donors and mailing lists for annual appeals, ensuring data is accurate.
  • Assist Database Specialist with accurate constituent records including updating donor information and identifying duplicate constituent records.
  • Assist with tracking all donor activities and communication in Tessitura including, but not limited to mailings, event invitations received, notes, phone logs and meeting notes.

Event Coordination Support

  • Support the Development team in preparation and execution for pre/post-concert events, stewardship meet and greets, Arbor Series, appreciation parties, and other activities associated with donors, patrons and volunteers.
  • Collaborate and assist on events as needed including concerts, cultivation events, and Maestro’s Dream.
  • Support the Development team as a point person for event attendee confirmation/follow-up.
  • Attend and actively participate in all of ASO’s special events including community concerts, educational events, Women’s Symphony League (WSL) events, and other events as needed.

Donor Relations

  • Assist in the production of acknowledgement letters and other communications.
  • Assist the Development team with writing donor and volunteer thank you notes
  • Facilitate the donation process by helping with donor calls, communicating membership information, assisting with ASO events, and organizing/managing membership benefits.

General Development Support

  • Support the Development team on all other fundraising and communication projects as needed.
  • Work with the Development team to create development campaign-focused social media plans.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Experience

  • Working knowledge of nonprofit fundraising practices.
  • Experience working on special events and fundraising campaigns a plus.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university preferred (or a comparable background of training and experience).

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Excellent organizational/project management skills with a particular focus on managing details and meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently on projects with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and confidence speaking with diverse populations and representing ASO in the community.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of all internal donor and patron information.
  • Ability to creatively problem solve and work with other departments in the organization.
  • Ability to respond with sensitivity and awareness to those with diverse cultural, ethnic, social backgrounds, values, attitudes, and languages.
  • Microsoft Office proficiency and experience (Word, Excel, Publisher), along with a great eye for detail.
  • Strong technical skills and ability to learn new software.
  • Collaborates well with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Graphic design experience with knowledge of Canva and Adobe Creative Suite is a plus
  • Prior Tessitura experience is a plus

 

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

  • $21.50 per hour, 37.5 hour workweek

  • Position will have a dedicated workspace in the Austin Symphony Orchestra corporate office located at 1806 Rio Grande in Austin, TX
  • Free parking provided
  • Attendance and participation at some concerts, events, and activities will be expected outside of normal office hours.
