Founded in 1953, the Women’s Symphony League of Austin provides service and financial support to the Austin Symphony Orchestra and its children’s educational programs. With a diverse membership of more than 650, this group gives over 15,000 hours of service and raises money for the ASO annually.
Candidates for membership in the WSL are recommended by current members. Active members are requested to participate both financially and with volunteer hours each year on two major fundraisers: Jewel Ball in the fall, and either the Red Haute Valentine Party and Children’s Style Show or the Youth Leadership Council in the spring. Active members also participate on at least one other service or educational committee.
General Meetings, which include a program and social time as well as a short business session, are usually held on the second Monday of each month, September through May. Half of the meetings are held during the lunch hour and half in the evening. Attendance at General Meetings is not required.
