On February 2 & 3, Central Texas will have the opportunity to see and hear the Austin Symphony perform at Bass Concert Hall one last time before the Symphony begins its journey to the Long Center for the Performing Arts.

In the last 25 years, many outstanding musicians have performed with the Austin Symphony at Bass Concert Hall including Yo-Yo Ma, Nadja Salerno-Sonnenberg, Van Cliburn, Isaac Stern, Alicia de Laroccha, Joshua Bell, Angel Romero, Christopher Parkening, André Watts, Leon Fleisher, Pinchas Zukerman, Katia and Marielle Labèque, Midori, Doc Severinsen, and many others.

One memorable performance in 1981, the Austin Symphony performed as the “pit” orchestra during an Austin Civic Ballet program with guest performer Mikhail Baryshnikov. Another was for the Texas Sesquicentennial in 1986. Prince Charles was in attendance as Willie Nelson performed with the Austin Symphony. Just recently in 2005, the audience packed a sold-out house to hear Beethoven’s 9th Symphony.

Over 750,000 children have listened to the Austin Symphony performances at Bass through award-winning youth programs. Children from all over Central Texas had their first symphony experience at Bass listening and seeing the Austin Symphony.

Maestro Peter Bay and the ASO close this monumental chapter with an unforgettable performance. Percussion phenomenon and Grammy© Award winner Evelyn Glennie joins the ASO for a night featuring works by Milhaud, Schwantner, Vivaldi, and Respighi. Ms. Glennie is the first person in musical history to successfully create and sustain a full-time career as a solo percussionist. She has appeared on The David Letterman Show, Sesame Street, 60 minutes, PBS Profile, and many more. Tickets are available at the Austin Symphony Box Office, 11th and Red River or call 476-6064 or 1-888-4-MAESTRO (toll-free) or log on at www.austinsymphony.org.
